Volunteers make Scottish Rite for Children a special place for patients and families and are an integral part of the daily activities. Our volunteers have diverse skills and interests but share a common goal – supporting Scottish Rite's mission of giving children back their childhood.
 

Currently recruiting volunteers 21 and older able to commit to recurring weekly shifts for a minimum of 6 months.

The weekday volunteer program is designed for adults, ages 18 and up who are no longer in high school.

Dallas Campus Volunteer shifts available:
Monday – Friday
7:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. 

Frisco Campus Volunteer shifts available:

Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 

Shifts are typically morning, afternoon or both, based on the amount of time you have available. 

Volunteer opportunities are available in many departments and are based on our needs and your skills, availability, and interests.

The evening volunteer program is designed for adults, ages 18 and up who are no longer in high school. Evening volunteers provide group activities for inpatients, siblings and family members.

Monday – Thursday
5:45 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

Activities include:            
  • Playing games and sports
  • Watching movies 
  • Participating in arts and crafts
  • Outings in the park  
  • Assist the information desk staff 
  • Distribute linens and snacks on the inpatient floor 
Volunteers provide fun and recreation to keep the children’s minds off their medical care and provide family-oriented activities while they are at Scottish Rite.

IMMUNIZATION POLICY/PROCEDURES FOR VOLUNTEERS

Provide documentation of required immunizations to Volunteer Services by email attachments to volunteers@tsrh.org or deliver in person.
  • TB test
    • Blood draw to determine immunity levels
    • If immunity is present, thereafter a yearly questionnaire is required
    • Blood draw must be done by Scottish Rite for Children's Occupational Health
  • COVID vaccine
    • Must provide documentation of COVID vaccine shot(s)
    • COVID booster shot as deemed necessary by Scottish Rite after initial COVID vaccine
    • COVID vaccines and booster must be obtained through the volunteer’s health provider
  • Seasonal flu shot
    • Must provide documentation of seasonal flu shot
    • May be provided by Scottish Rite for Children, but can also be obtained through the volunteer’s health provider
    • Mandatory during flu season (typically October-April of each year) 
  •  TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis)
    • Must provide documentation of shot within last ten years and remain current
    • Must be obtained through the volunteer’s health provider
  • Chickenpox #1 & #2
    • Must provide proof of varicella vaccines (2 shots) or proof of immunity from the volunteer’s health provider
  • MMR #1 and #2 (Measles or Rubella, Mumps and Rubella, 2 shots totaling 1 ml
    • Must provide proof of vaccines (2 shots) or proof of immunity from the volunteer’s health provider

The Bernice and Brudus Meyerson Junior Volunteer Program has been established to commemorate a former volunteer couple’s love for giving back and their devotion to Scottish Rite for Children's mission and their fellow volunteers.

Watch for updated information in Spring 2024 about the 2024 Summer Program. 

The program commitment is five consecutive business days on the Dallas campus or Frisco campus. There will be approximately 60 openings for the Dallas campus (approximately 10 per week) and six (approximately three per week) for the Frisco campus.

Offers to participate will be made on a first-come, first-served basis as students turn in all necessary documents and immunization records.

Placement is contingent on the following:

  • Completing the on line application
  • Attending an information session
  • Completing a group interview
  • Attending an orientation

 To successfully complete the program requires:

  • Completing a full week of volunteering 8:30 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. during your assigned week.
Daily schedule includes:
  • Volunteering with an adult volunteer mentor,
  • Team lunch
  • Explore and Learn session in clinical and non-clinical areas to learn about health care careers
  • Team social media “friendraising” project and video.

  • Acquire real-life work experience in a variety of departments
  • Participate in a social media fundraiser, which supports the patients of Scottish Rite for Children 
  • Gain a positive, character-building experience that will open doors to future college and career pursuits
  • Make a difference in the lives of children
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS OF ALL STUDENTS DUE UPON ACCEPTANCE TO THE PROGRAM:
  • MMR #1 & #2 (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) – Two shots total or blood test proving immunity
  • CHICKENPOX #1 & #2 (Varicella)- Two shots total or blood test proving immunity
  • TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis)- Tdap vaccination given with the last 10 years
  • COVID- Two doses of Pfizer or Moderna OR 1 dose of Johnson and Johnson
  • Tuberculosis (TB) screening. A Tuberculin skin test is required for all Junior volunteers within 30 days of the start of their volunteer week.

The program location is five consecutive business days on the Dallas campus or Frisco campus.

    • There is no program scheduled for the week of July 4

    • Week 8: July 31-August 4    Dallas
  • Volunteer shifts Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day

  • High school students between the ages of 15 and 17 as of June 1, 2023
  • The application for Summer 2023 opens Tuesday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m.

The program location is five consecutive business days on the Dallas campus or Frisco campus. There will approximately 60 openings for the Dallas campus (approximately 10 students per week) and six for the Frisco campus (approximately three students per week). 

Applying and interviewing for the junior program does not guarantee placement. Placement is contingent on the following:

  • Completing the on line application
  • Attending an information session
  • Completing a group interview
  • Attending an orientation

  • The application for Summer 2023 opens Tuesday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Applications will close once the number of applicants exceed the number of students who can be accommodated in the information and group interview sessions.

Information sessions will be held in March on both the Dallas and Frisco campus after the close of the application process. A parent or guardian is required to attend the information session with the student.

Frisco campus for those wishing to volunteer on the Frisco campus:

  • How Junior Volunteers serve at Scottish Rite
  • What is expected of a Junior Volunteer
  • Next steps to becoming a Junior Volunteer

All applicants who attend an orientation session will be notified of their status and the next step in the process.

Applicants will be selected and invited to attend a group interview.

Group interviews for the Dallas applicants will be on the Dallas campus.

Thursday, April 13 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
 
Group interview for Frisco applicants will be held on the Frisco campus.

Offers will be made following the group interviews. Those receiving offers will be invited to schedule an Orientation. All candidates who participated in a group interview will be advised of their status.

Orientation is required for all Junior Volunteers.

After your application is processed, the camp director will contact you to schedule an informal interview.

Each camp will have training before camp that all volunteers and counselors will need to attend.

Mandatory camp training is required to attend any camp sponsored by Scottish Rite for Children. Please select a date below to register for a training, you must attend a training that is prior to the camp you are applying for. If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled trainings, please contact the appropriate camp director.

Training dates will be communicated to applicants during the interview process.
