Volunteers make Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children a special place for patients and families and are an integral part of the hospital’s daily activity. Though our volunteers’ backgrounds are diverse, they’re united in the desire to contribute their time and talents to our children and their families.
We have two different programs for TSRHC Adult Volunteers and a summer program for our Junior Volunteers.
The weekday volunteer program is designed for adults who are available Monday - Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Volunteer shifts are typically morning, afternoon or both, based on the amount of time you have available. Depending on current hospital needs and your availability and interests, a schedule and position can be determined during your interview. Volunteer opportunities are available in most departments of the hospital. Our volunteers are a vital part of the hospital’s warm, friendly atmosphere.
The evening volunteer program is designed to provide a group activity for inpatients, siblings and family members Mon. - Thurs. evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Activities consist of playing games and sports, watching movies and participating in arts & crafts and outings in the park with inpatients. Evening volunteers also assist the information desk staff and help distribute linens & snacks on the inpatient floor. Volunteers provide fun and recreation to keep the children’s minds off of their medical care and provide family-oriented activities while they’re at TSRHC.
Whether helping navigate the halls, giving hugs or handing out their signature popcorn, our volunteers dedicate their caring hearts and hands to patients and their families.
There are many ways to be involved as a volunteer at TSRHC. So many, in fact, that we can’t list them all.
