Volunteers make Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children a special place for patients and families and are an integral part of the hospital’s daily activity. Though our volunteers’ backgrounds are diverse, they’re united in the desire to contribute their time and talents to our children and their families. Some of our volunteer opportunities include:
- Greeting patient families
- Supporting our nurses
- Assisting office staff
- Entertaining children
- Assisting with special events
- Working in the gift shop
- Giving tours
- Assisting in the school room
- Serving popcorn, and more
Becoming a Volunteer
Step One: Complete a Volunteer Application
Adult Volunteers:
Download the application or call Volunteer Services at (214) 559-7825 or (800) 421-1121,
ext. 7825 to request an application. Reference and criminal background checks are completed on each applicant. Day volunteer hours are Monday through Friday,
8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and evening volunteer hours are Monday through Thursday,
6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Junior Volunteers (ages 14 – 17):
Applications are accepted for the summer program beginning Feb. 1. Please call
Volunteer Services at (214) 559-7825 or (800) 421-1121, ext. 7825 to request an application.
Please mail your completed application to Volunteer Services or deliver it in person.

Step Two: Face-to-Face Interview
After the background check is cleared and your application is processed, one of our volunteer coordinators will contact you to schedule an interview. During the informal interview, the coordinator will explore placement options and discuss a schedule with you. Your availability and interests, as well as the needs of the hospital, are considered in placement decisions.
Step Three: Orientation
We offer an orientation class one day and one evening each month to give you an overview of the hospital and the volunteer program. Volunteers are required to complete a tuberculosis screening prior to their start date. A free TB skin test is offered by our Employee Health nurse at orientation.
