Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to be involved as a volunteer at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. So many, in fact, that we can’t list them all. Here are some of the ways giving your time and energy will benefit the thousands of patients treated at TSRHC each year and help the hospital continue to provide exceptional care without charge to patient families.

Admissions Greeter
Welcome new patients and their families to the hospital.

Child Life Playroom Assistant
Provide a smile and emotional support as you join patients in the playroom for planned activities.

Mail Delivery
Receive, sort and deliver mail to the hospital’s departments.

School Room Assistant
Assist DISD teachers with the educational needs of our patients.

Phlebotomy Lab
Provide nonmedical support for patients and families undergoing outpatient lab procedures.

Surgery Waiting Area
Serve as a host or hostess to families of surgical patients by providing hospitality, information and emotional support.

Nurse Support
Assist inpatient nursing staff with phone calls, errands and patients’ nonmedical needs.

Read to Patients
Read aloud to patients in outpatient waiting areas and in the inpatient unit.

Office Angels
Assist various departments with office and clerical tasks.

Popcorn Stand
Pop and serve TSRHC’s famous popcorn to patients, families, guests and staff. A fixture of the hospital, the popcorn stand not only provides a fresh aroma throughout the building, it also raises valuable funds for the hospital.

Sewing Room
Sew items for our patients while being involved in our in-house sewing group.

Radiology
Assist patients and families at check-in, answer phones and transport medical records and films.

Crafters
Create works of art to be sold in our annual volunteer craft bazaars, which benefit TSRHC patients.

Gift Shop
Work in the hospital gift shop, where you’ll welcome and assist customers with purchases.

Tour Guide
Provide hospital tours to groups or individuals interested in learning more about the hospital.

Children’s Library
Organize and maintain TSRHC’s children’s library, which provides books and other resources to patients and their families.

Information Desk
Welcome hospital guests, patients and families by providing information and directions as well as escorting guests throughout the hospital.

Evening Volunteer
Provide and assist with activities, such as arts and crafts, games and parties for inpatients Monday through Thursday evenings.

Special Events
Join hospital staff and other volunteers and serve as a hospital representative at more than 250 community events each year.
