13th Annual Treasure Street Raises More Than $585,000 for
Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children
(DALLAS — November 25, 2008) — Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) proudly announces that Treasure Street, the hospital’s signature event, raised more than $585,000 this year. All proceeds from Treasure Street, a live and silent auction, benefit the patients at TSRHC.
More than 1,000 friends of the hospital enjoyed food from a variety of Highland Park Village restaurants, as well as extraordinary entertainment, including a marching band, a magician, fire jugglers and performers on stilts. True to the theme for the evening, Todd Whitthorne, Treasure Street board member, was the emcee for the event donning a top hat, cane and coat tails. Guests had the opportunity to bid on magnificent auction items, including a private magic show by world-renowned Las Vegas magician Simon Winthrop, a luxurious Mexican beach getaway and a trip to New York fashion week. “Starburst,” an original painting created by TSRHC patients and local artist Christopher H. Martin, received record-breaking bids. The 2008 Treasure Street honorary event chairs were Tricia and Gil Besing and the event chairs were Gerry and Rod Jones.
Treasure Street was established by a group of TSRHC patient families with children affected by tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Through the years, event proceeds have provided important funds for the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Clinic at TSRHC supporting advances in research, such as the development of a commercial DNA test for TSC, a landmark breakthrough that benefits all children. Thanks to the support of Treasure Street, the TSC Clinic is a model clinic for others throughout the world today.
In 2007, the Treasure Street board voted to establish Treasure Street as the hospital’s signature event, benefiting all children treated at TSRHC and continuing to provide important funds for the treatment and research of TSC. Since its inception, Treasure Street has raised more than $6.3 million for the hospital.
