About: Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia training opportunity. This curriculum contains the five key components of effective reading instruction supported by the National Reading Panel. This curriculum is designed for use by Academic Language Therapists for small group instruction of students with dyslexia (7 years and older). Training consists of an initial three day workshop with two additional one-day follow up sessions scheduled at a later date. About: Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics: Topics for Primary Care is designed for pediatricians, family practitioners, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and healthcare professionals providing direct care to children. The program features Barbara Howard, M.D., renowned pediatrician and developmental specialist whose lively teaching style embellishes any topic. Her insights into children’s behavioral health are practical and relevant to providers and parents. Attendees can broaden their knowledge and skills in behavioral and developmental screening at her pre-conference workshop.Autism expert Nhung Tran, M.D. is presenting an in-depth practical review of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), including presentation, etiologies, co-morbidities, therapies, prognosis and recent developments. Her developmental approach will include discussion on recognition and management of disorders other than ASD which cause language delays. Other conference topics include updates on biopsychosocial dimensions in understanding and managing ADHD and a case-based pre-conference workshop designed to provide clinicians with tools for use in evaluation of attention, language and learning problems.
Syllabus materials will be available in print and thumbdrive. The registration fee includes continental breakfast and lunch. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will be provided. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, the accredited sponsor, is jointly sponsoring this activity with Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
