Community Encouraged to Donate Cell Phones to Raise Funds for
Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children
Donate Old, Working, Broken Cell Phones to Benefit KidSwing Golf Tournament

(DALLAS – May 29, 2009) – Creators of KidSwing golf tournament are going green when it comes to fundraising. In looking for creative ways to raise funds for the seventh annual KidSwing, an all-kids golf tournament benefiting Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) to be held on June 15, tournament leaders and participants will help the community properly dispose of and recycle old cell phones, while giving back to TSRHC. For each old, working or broken cell phone that is recycled, the hospital will receive funds based on the value of the cell phone (up to $150).

“This opportunity to recycle cell phones is a great way for kids to not only learn about protecting the environment, but also about the importance of fundraising and giving back,” said Stephanie Brigger, vice president of development at TSRHC. “The idea of these children fundraising is so special. Their efforts ultimately help provide medical care to children who are patients at TSRHC.”

Cell phone drop-off locations include Dick’s Sporting Goods at Park Lane in Dallas from noon to 4 p.m. on May 30 and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through June 5 at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Development department, at 2222 Welborn Street in Dallas. Registration will also be available at these times and locations.

The seventh annual KidSwing golf tournament will be held Monday, June 15 at Brookhaven Country Club, 3333 Golfing Green Drive in Dallas. There will be two shotgun starts at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Founded in 2003 by former Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) patient Ben Sater and his mother Kim, KidSwing is a nine-hole, best-ball scramble for players ages 7 to 18. A KidSwing tournament in McKinney, Texas, was added in 2008. To date, KidSwing tournaments have raised more than $660,000 for TSRHC.
