Cellular Pathology

The division of Cellular Pathology provides technical expertise in processing tissue specimens for clinical and research purposes.

The Cellular Pathology team supports the centers of excellence and provides following services:

Routine Histology

We have two dediciated histotechnologists who have experience working with soft and hard tissues. Specimens can be processed in the following ways:

  • Rapid Frozen Section
  • Immunocytochemistry
  • Histomorphometry
  • Electron Microscopy
  • Hard Tissue Techniques (paraffin and plastic)
  • Neuropathology

In addition to routine tissue processing and histology equipment, the facility has an electron microscope, confocal microscope, multiple light microscopes, sledge microtome, and Faxitron digital x-ray machine.

Cell and Tissue Depository

The Cell and Tissue Depository is a bank of primary cells and tissues from various orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions. It acts as a centralized tissue depository for all TSRHC researchers. When a research project need arises, the. cells and tissues can be used to investigate the pathologic mechanisms of orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions.

The depository has collected specimens from uncommon conditions, such as Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, congenital pseudoarthrosis and macrodactyly, for future studies. The depository is committed to providing high quality clinical samples for researchers while maintaining patient confidentiality. Clinical sample collection requires the approval of the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Molecular Core Facility

The molecular Laboratory offers a wide range of services in molecular biology to facilitate the studies on gene and protein expressions.

Project Support Services

The Division of Project Support Services provides TSRHC researchers with assistance in statistical consulting, development of data gathering forms, editorial review of manuscripts for submission to journals, preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) forms and working with The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center IRB
